Coming across an op-ed from here, I came to the conclusion that most of the time, Burmese names are not done justice. The op-ed states this: Bush continued making us proud by thinking and saying that he was addressing an OPEC summit instead of the APEC summit. He thanked the Austrian army for providing security. Yes, of course, it was the Australians who provided the security in Australia not the Austrians. He got lost on stage and couldn’t find his way off and couldn’t pronounce the name of Myanmar’s democratic opposition leader; all grade A Bush material for late night comics everywhere. |

When I was serving in the advisory committee I told the Education Minister. "What sense of education for 5-years old student by teaching to support co-operatives (Tha-ma-wayama)?" Behind the idea of co-operative, there is a long story, starting by Robert Owen as a way of socialism and the idea trying to alleviate the suffering of the workers under capitalism. The 5-years old student may not know by reciting these bluffing. It was ruining our culture. Dr.Nyi Nyi was Deputy Education Minister at that time and he commented U Khin Maung Kyi, you are the only one who said different opinions. All the rest nod their heads.
Now, the education system is in the worst situation--no longer a system anymore and the students can't even read and write Burmese language properly. I see several students from Burma at Singapore's expensive United World Colleague. They are kids of the generals and the ones from the affordable families. They could be saying as elites of Burma. They came out from the present education system of Burma, however, they didn't attain high school standard of English, while they can't even passed good enough Burmese language--their mother tongue and linguistics. It is a question, "What kind of Burmese elites they are producing?" They completely wash-out "socialization". All are going to be finished both the country and people will be wipe out by the next century.

violence, involving 625 girls and women, committed by Burmese army
troops in Shan State, mostly between 1996 and 2001.
Published
by OSI grantees the Shan Human Rights Foundation and the Shan Women's
Action Network, the report reveals that the Burmese military regime has
allowed its troops systematically and on a widespread scale to commit
rape with impunity in order to terrorize and subjugate the ethnic
peoples of Shan State.

kalla `Myanmarifiering´.
Men
I Saw Maungs

Midnight. You hear many people pounding away at your door, demanding you open up. You make one last-ditch effort to hide the incriminating evidence, though you know they are only documents calling for democracyin your country. They pose no threat to anyone, except the brutal minds of your captors. You tell your family to remain calm; everything will be OK.Your heart is pounding, your mind racing. You open the door slightly and the authorities push their way into your home, overturning everything and demanding you come with them. They show no warrant; there is no need for legal matters when the authorities decide to take you away.
